This week, the biggest winner was Psychic Puppetry (up 1365% to $3.25), which is one of the main combo pieces of Twiddle Storm: a new Modern deck looking to untap Lotus Field a bunch of times to generate mana before eventually winning with traditional storm finishers like Grapeshot. While we did play a version of the deck on Budget Magic last week, the biggest reason for the price increase is that the deck managed to go 12-3 at a Modern Grand Prix last weekend, just missing the top eight. Lotus Field is another card to keep an eye on moving forward. If the deck takes off and starts posting top eights, it could be next in line for an increase.
Meanwhile, in the world of Commander 2019, K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth was one of the most viewed cards on the site this week. While its price has been stable, it is currently selling for between $22 and $28, which is absurdly high for a card in a $40-ish preconstructed deck. If you need a copy you might as well just pick up the preconstructed deck for $40-$45; the deck has more than enough value outside of K'rrik to make it worthwhile. Otherwise, it's hard to imagine that K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth can actually stay over $20 while Commander 2019 is on store shelves, so if you don't want the entire deck, you might as well wait a couple of months for prices to normalize.
Finally we have Balthor the Defiled, which Command Zone recommended as an upgrade to the Rakdos Madness Commander 2019 deck, which in turn lead to the Judgment rare being bought out and spiking from $5 to $23. While the card is good with Chainer, Nightmare Adept and K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth (where you can activate Balthor the Defiled's reanimation ability for six life), the price should come back down over the next few weeks. If you have copie,s try to sell or trade them away into the hype, and if you need a copy, you are best off waiting. While it will be a while before Balthor the Defiled hits $5 again (if it ever does), it wouldn't be surprising to see it closer to $10 before long.
