Weekly Update (Sep 03): New Planeswalker—Huatli, Warrior Poet
Ixalan Spoilers |
Ixalan spoilers started this past week in strange fashion: Wizards decided to reveal all of the leaked cards from earlier in the year, giving us the majority of the rares and mythics from the set. The rest of the week was a trickle of uncommons, with the new planeswalker Huatli being revealed at PAX on Saturday. Check out the latest Ixalan spoilers at mtg.fish/xln, or you can check out our Daily Spoilers video with commentary from SaffronOlive:

Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
The biggest finance news of the week is the confirmation that Wizards is dropping the planeswalker uniqueness rule and making all planeswalkers—past, present, and future—legendary (with the release of Ixalan). This sent ripples through the market, with various versions of Gideon increasing, and several cards that work with legends spiking since they now work with planeswalkers along with legendary creatures. This group includes Untaidake, the Cloud Keeper (up 114% to over $9) which is now an Ancient Tomb for planeswalkers, and Reki, the History of Kamigawa (up 49% to $11) as a card advantage engine for a Superfriends deck.
Otherwise, Commander 2017 is still driving price movement as players look to upgrade their decks. Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund is great in the Dragon deck and jumped about 50% to nearly $25, Nacatl War-Pride is now a $6 uncommon thanks to the Cat deck, Sundial of the Infinite nearly tripled in price to $5 thanks to renewed interest in killing people with Phage the Untouchable and Fractured Loyalty, while Sigil Tracer and Wanderwine Prophets are still on the rise thanks to the Wizards deck. Generally these type of increases are based on real organic demand and are more likely to stick in price than random Reserved List buyouts.
Finally, speaking of the Reserved List, the buyouts are still happening with a bunch more random cards spiking this week. At this point all you can do is ignore the insanity and wait to see where prices settle.
