The biggest finance news of the week comes from Standard, where we had our first new breakout deck of the Hour of Devastation format: WU God-Pharaoh's Gift. The deck, which won a Magic Online PTQ over the weekend, caused several key cards to spike on Magic Online, and some have started to creep up in paper as well. These cards include Angel of Invention (the biggest paper winner of the bunch, up 32% to just under $3) along with Cataclysmic Gearhulk, Void Winnower, and Mausoleum Wanderer. Although it's probably wise to take a wait and see attitude with Pro Tour Hour of Revelation coming next weekend, it's also likely a good idea to cash out at least the rotating cards (Void Winnower and Mausoleum Wanderer) into the hype.
Apart from God-Pharaoh's Gift hype, this week also provides another great example of the power of the casual/Commander market, with Mindmoil jumping more than 300% due to its synergy with The Locust God. At this point, it seems like the right thing to do is just hold onto all of your bulk rares, because you never know when something seemingly unplayable will spike thanks to a popular new Commander seeing print.
Finally, a quick check on Hour of Devastation as a whole: the price of the set hasn't really dropped at all since it was released. Back on July 9th when I published the expected value of the set, the complete set price was $183.50, today it's $188.80—almost exactly the same. With Pro Tour Hour of Devastation coming next weekend, it's likely the set increases a bit more, at least over the short term, which is making it look a lot like Dragons of Tarkir; a set infamously underpriced during presales, that actually ended up being a bit above average in value.
