Modern Mayhem: Sultai Tempo (Modern, Magic Online)
Ninjas, Snowlands, and Faeries? Sounds like a good time!
Gameplan
On paper, the deck doesn't look threatening and it looks more like a #MTGMH1 draft deck, but the amount of value you get out of your creatures is quite absurd. Being able to Ninjitsu something like our Snapcaster Mage, Ice-Fang Coatl, and Spellstutter Sprite is sweet.
You can definitely play a solid tempo game with disruption spells like Inquisition of Kozilek and cheap permission spells like Remand and Mana Leak. It turns out the deck can just win on the back of a bunch of X/1 creatures!
Conclusion
I ended up making a handful of misclicks but the deck was a blast. I don't know what has caused the recent uptick in Mono-Red Phoenix but it's brutal playing against a deck like that when they have so much burn and Lava Dart. I think the deck is playing a game that is a little "too" fair and I could probably have played a few lines a little more optimally but I don't see me playing this deck outside of an FNM or just a league for funsies. Maybe I just need to try the version with Fallen Shinobi to maximize the amount of fun as anything with Ninjitsu has me smiling ear to ear. Oh and I realized this has been the first deck in a minute without our best friend Teferi!
See you at the next one<3
