Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in Magic finance, the biggest news comes from MagicCon Vegas, where Wizards announced that starting with the release of Edge of Eternities in August, legendary Vehicles and spacecraft will be legal as your commander. While most Vehicles aren't especially exciting commanders, one in particular is getting some hype: the RMS Titanic, which jumped more than 200%. Although its price is still only $3, the attention is notable. Overall, I'm not sure this rules change will have a huge impact in the short term, but if some spicy spacecraft release in Edge of Eternities, they could influence prices.
Meanwhile, some of the saga creatures from Final Fantasy Commander are on the rise, with Summon: Ixion climbing nearly 500% to over $9 and Summon: Yojimbo more than doubling to $19. The latter is especially interesting—Phil’s been playing it for Commander Clash, and it has looked good every time it hits the battlefield. I think you can probably toss it into just about any white deck and get value from it, although it gets even better with Power Conduit to remove its counters. That synergy caused the artifact to also double this week, landing in the $11 price range.
Finally, in Modern, Sigarda's Aid is on the rise, doubling to $20 this week. While this is likely due in part to the Commander potential of all the Equipment legends from Final Fantasy, it's also worth mentioning that Modern Hammer Time has been on the upswing. Players are testing new cards like Cloud, Midgar Mercenary and Raubahn, Bull of Ala Mhigo in the deck. Whether this new support is enough to bring Hammer Time back to tier-one status remains to be seen, but people are at least talking about the archetype again for the first time in a while.
