Modern Mayhem: Orzhov Superfriends (Modern, Magic Online)


Welcome back to another episode of Modern Mayhem! This week we're feeling a little super in Modern...

Gameplan

The general plan is to sit behind our planeswalkers that will continue to generate tokens and apply pressure and just win through them.

Since Modern currently isn't running anything like an The Elderspell, there are few things that deal with multiple planeswalkers hitting the board outside of Tron decks using Oblivion Stone. Our walkers usually all generate a little creature every turn or help us answer something on the board.

We can protect our planeswalkers by using our discard spells like Inquisition of Kozilek and Thoughtseize!

With these spells, we're aiming to strip our opponents of any threats or key pieces to slow them down and allow our planeswalker engine to get going. We can also use these to clear the path so our Dark Confidant can stick around. Speaking of Dark Confidant...

Our creature package here either draws us cards or disrupts our opponents in a few ways. The Tidehollow Sculler gives more ways to disrupt our opponent's hand and the Fulminator Mage keeps the big mana game plan at bay. Scratch that, it outright slows decks down with greedy mana bases. The best thing is we're able to reoccur these threats as we have cards like Liliana, The Last Hope and Sorin, Vengeful Bloodlord to pull them back. I'm trying the new Sorin more as a pet card than an actual good card but it definitely has applications. Especially since our creatures will have lifelink and so do our planeswalkers! This will be relevant with an animated Gideon! 

Conclusion

The deck still feels the same as it did before as there was a version of this deck running around awhile back. It was more like Orzhov Gideon tribal but I wonder what could happen if we add blue to this deck as there was an Esper superfriends list running around awhile back. I think if we do that, we can get to a point where it's almost like an Esper prison deck! Anywho, we played a little sloppy against the Spirits deck so potentially this deck could've been 4-1 had it not been for that. The deck felt absurdly powerful when you just snowball the opponent with planeswalkers so take this for a spin if you're a fan of superfriends and its many variants!
