Weekly Update (Nov 5): Pro Tour Ixalan Decks

Pro Tour Ixalan

Pro Tour Ixalan is in the books and the major story of the weekend was the abundance of Energy decks (making up over half of the metagame) and the decks brought to combat them. In the end, it was Seth Manfield taking home the trophy with Sultai Energy. Check out the 6+ Win decklists below, as well as our Round by Round live coverage:

Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive

Vraska, Relic Seeker Meddling Mage Ancient Ziggurat

This big finance news of the week is the fact that Pro Tour Ixalan has come and gone without making a huge financial impact—partly because the Pro Tour itself was much later than normal, and partly because the field was dominated by Temur Energy and Ramunap Red. Unlike some Pro Tours where we have a bunch of cards that double or triple in price, Pro Tour Ixalan was pretty tame. The biggest winner was Vraska, Relic Seeker (up 58% on the week to $26), but the planeswalker was increasing before the Pro Tour. Otherwise, Treasure Map, Rampaging Ferocidon, and Legion's Landing all jumped between 13% and 26%, but none of these cards really broke out on the Pro Tour stage. Considering the common theme of these cards is they are either part of Tokens or fight against Tokens, it wouldn't be surprising to see some of these cards start to decrease in coming weeks considering the deck faded away after the first day of Pro Tour Ixalan.

In Modern, the big story is Five-Color Humans, which is continuing to pick up steam (with the deck even showing up in Legacy over the past week). Meddling Mage (up 36% to $17.50) and Ancient Ziggurat (up 66% to $10) are the two biggest winners from the deck. Both cards went from borderline unplayable in Modern to pseudo-staples in the format in just a couple of weeks. I'd lean towards selling into the hype if you have copies. Even though it's looking like the deck is real, both cards are extremely reprintable.

Finally, in the world of Magic Online, keep an eye on Treasure Chests. They've been near their all time low over the past couple of weeks, and there's an update (which will include Commander 2017 cards) coming on November 15th. Typically an update resets the value of the chests to about 2.5 tix for a short period of time, so it might be worth holding onto the chests you win for the next week or two in hopes of cashing out for a higher price post-update.
