Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
Overall this was a fairly quiet week in the finance world, but all of this will change tomorrow when spoilers officially begin for Masters 25. The set, much like Iconic Masters, will be distributed in big box stores like Walmart and Target (along with local game stores), and it's likely a lot of it will be opened as players chase after the newly unbanned Jace, the Mind Sculptor. This means we should see a huge impact on prices, especially for Commander, Legacy, and fringe Modern cards. If you want to play it safe, it's probably best to sell cards that are likely to be reprinted before they are officially previewed over the next couple of weeks.
One card in particular to look out for is Liliana of the Veil. The planeswalker was down near $60 a year ago after Modern Masters 2017, but is now up to $110. If Liliana of the Veil isn't reprinted in Masters 25, the price could continue to climb since a reprint would be unlikely before the next Masters set.
Meanwhile, the general trend line for Pauper is still up. This week the format had fourteen cards that increased in value by at least 10% (and many in the 50% range) and zero cards that lost more than 10% of their value. While it's still possible that interest in the format fades eventually, it's also just as possible the format continues to legitimize itself in the paper world. While Wizards will reprint Pauper cards eventually, it will probably be another year until these reprints really start to trickle into products. As such, if you are interested in the format over the short term, it might be wise to pick up a deck now while prices are still reasonable.
