Kaladesh Spoilers |
Another week of Kaladesh spoilers done and we're in the home stretch. We received two very powerful planeswalkers in Chandra, Torch of Defiance and Nissa, Vital Force. We even received the two new Planeswalker Deck planeswalkers, Chandra, Pyrogenius and Nissa, Nature's Artisan. These are Standard-legal, but are only available via the Planeswalker Decks designed for new players. Be sure to check out the latest Kaladesh spoilers at mtg.fish/kld and check out Jake's day-by-day Limited Review below:

Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
It's been a relatively quiet week on the finance front with the focus of the community being on the upcoming release of Kaladesh and Standard rotation. Apart from a few small increases in Modern including Engineered Explosives and Noble Hierarch, and the continued decline of rotating Standard cards, the biggest news of the week is Kaladesh presales and the bets players seem to be making on the future.
First off, three mythics are sold out at StarCityGames: Chandra, Torch of Defiance (who has been sold out for a while now) at $60, Aetherworks Marvel at $8, and Skysovereign, Consul Flagship at $6. Skysovereign, Consul Flagship makes sense because it looks to be a powerful, stand alone card, but the fact that Aetherworks Marvel makes the list is fairly interesting since its power is closely tied to the playability of energy as a mechanic. It appears that players are betting that energy will be good in Standard, and that some energy payoff cards might be better than they look. An example could be Architect of the Untamed, the only infinite energy dump we've seen so far (all the other energy abilities require tapping or mana).
Speaking of Kaladesh, one cycle of cards in specific has gotten a ton of questions: the enemy fastlands. Everyone wants to know if they should buy them now or wait, and considering that presale prices are somewhere in the $5 range, buying now seems fine. While it's possible they bottom out around $3, I'm not sure that playing a sub-optimal Standard deck for a couple of months to save a couple of dollars per copy is worth it, especially since most will likely end up hitting $5 again during their time in Standard.
Finally, on Magic Online, we are about to start Scars of Mirrodin block flashback drafts. As a result, if you are looking to pick up the original fastlands, Mox Opal, Wurmcoil Engine, or Koth of the Hammer, the next two or three weeks should give you a window to buy at a deep discount. Keep this in mind if you are looking to beef up your digital Modern collection.
