Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
It's been a fairly quiet week on the finance front as everyone waits for Ultimate Masters spoilers starting tomorrow. Standard has seen some small adjustments with cards from the top decks at Pro Tour Guilds of Ravnica like Benalish Marshal, Crackling Drake, Chart a Course, and Legion's Landing ticking up and many of the most expensive mythics in the format trending down now that the Pro Tour is over. With the format being wide open, it's hard to know exactly what comes next, but expect a fairly quiet month from Standard until Ravnica Allegiance spoilers start in the new year.
Expect Modern prices to get pretty wild over the next couple of weeks. Ultimate Masters is overloaded with value and going to cause many format staples to lose a big chunk of value upon reprinting. Meanwhile, keep an eye on non-reprinted cards from top decks. These cards could be in line for an increase as people take advantage of the Ultimate Masters reprints to buy into the format and need these cards to complete their decks. If you're planning on using Ultimate Masters to get into the Modern format, pick up the non-reprinted cards you need as soon as you can.
Finally, on Magic Online, Pauper staples (and to a lesser extent Vintage staples) posted huge gains on the week. With the Wizards announcement of the new Magic Online Championship Series focusing on older formats, Pauper offers a legitimate path to the Pro Tour and big money events for the first time. This is driving interest in the format and the prices of cards. Thankfully, total deck prices for Pauper are still very cheap, especially compared to other competitive formats. If you're interested in playing Pauper, it's a fine time to buy into the format.
