Dominaria Leaks |
|
Oops! Earlier this week, Wizards accidentally published the Chinese Release Notes for Dominaria. The Release Notes contain the text spoilers for 142 cards (out of the 249 non-basic Dominaria cards). So while we don't the complete set, the art, the flavor text, or the rarities, we do know A LOT about the set. Check out all the Dominaria spoilers at mtg.fish/dom, and check out the important highlights of the set from SaffronOlive:

Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week, the biggest finance news is the leak of a significant part of Dominaria. While the set is too far away to impact Standard prices directly, some of the broader themes revealed in the leak are driving up the prices. For example, Leyline of Singularity was bought out, going from near-bulk to over $17, a 1600% increase, perhaps based on hype for some interactions with cards from Dominaria. Along the same lines, some cards that interact with legends (like Reki, the History of Kamigawa, which increased 58% to $8.48) and Goblins (Legion Loyalist, up 38% to $11.58) also spiked this week. Considering we are still more than a month away from the release of the set, I expect this is only the start; as people dig through the leaks, we'll see more weird cards being bought out.
Meanwhile on Magic Online, one of the biggest movers were the Innistrad checklands. We saw the same thing happen when the allied members of the cycle were leaked for Ixalan, and while their prices are low now, they were fairly high when Ixalan first released. Picking up your playset on the cheap for Standard makes sense, but the window of opportunity might already be gone, so waiting until Dominaria releases is probably the way to go. It's worth mentioning that thanks to the printing of the enemy fastlands in Kaladesh, the cycle is less in-demand for Modern, which likely hurts the cycle's long-term potential outside of Standard.
In Modern, Gemstone Caverns was bought out, increasing 200% to over $32. The primary reason for the buyout is the Colorless Eldrazi deck that has been putting up some results in Modern. The deck plays a massive three copies of the legendary land to facilitate fast starts. If the new price point sticks, Gemstone Caverns will quickly move up the list of likely reprints for a future Masters set. If you have extras sitting around, it's probably wise to sell or trade them soon while the Colorless Eldrazi hype is strong.
