Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week, most of the biggest financial news revolves around the spoiling of Aether Revolt. By far the biggest winner was Saheeli Rai, which jumped a massive 336% from about $5 to $23 on the back of hype surrounding a Splinter Twin-like infinite combo for Standard which can win the game on turn four by attacking with an infinite number of Felidar Guardians. While it seems very possible this combo could be tier one in Standard, I'd still lean towards selling into the hype, especially if you don't plan on playing the deck. I'm not sure that Saheeli Rai can go much higher than she is today.
While not as extreme as Saheeli Rai, two other potential combo pieces for Standard increased this week as well. Wandering Fumarole, which can help make Consulate Crackdown infinitely big, jumped 12%, while Animation Module (which forms a Thopter / Sword like combo with Metallic Mimic) is creeping towards $1 after being complete bulk a few days ago. While both of these combos seem like long shots, especially in comparison to going infinite with Saheeli Rai or casting an Emrakul, the Promised End with Aetherworks Marvel on turn four, if either ends up being tier one in Aether Revolt Standard, all of the combo pieces have more room to grow.
In Modern, the big news is that Surgical Extraction more than doubled in price and is now about $16 depending on the printing. This is a bit strange, especially considering we could get another reprint in just a couple of months in Modern Masters 2017, but it seems people are betting that since it was in the last Modern Masters, it won't show up again.
On that note, let's close today with a reminder. While we are right in the middle of Aether Revolt hype today, we're only about six weeks away from Modern Masters 2017 spoilers. If you're still holding onto cards that are likely to be reprinted (like Liliana of the Veil and Snapcaster Mage in specific), it might be worth selling now, just in case, especially if they are just cluttering up your trade binder. For cards that are reprinted in Modern Masters 2017, there will be a window to buy for perhaps half of their current price in just a few months.
