Eldritch Moon Spoilers |
|
We made it through Eldritch Moon spoiler season! We received Lilana, the Last Hope and the rest of the cards in the set. The power level never tapered off, so we're in for a wild ride in Standard. Pro Tour Eldritch Moon will certainly be interesting; will GW/Bant reign supreme, or will a new hope arise? I'm excited! We also have a new shortened url, mtg.fish, so you can find the complete Eldritch Moon spoilers at mtg.fish/emn, or check out Jake's day-by-day Limited Review for Eldritch Moon:

Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
The biggest financial news of the week didn't actually involve any individual cards, but instead it was the announcement by TCGplayer that they are moving away from their low/mid/high pricing system in favor of a new "market" price. Under the old system, TCGplayer prices reflected how much money sellers were asking for a card, but didn't consider whether or not any cards were actually sold at this price. The new market price, on the other hand, is the average price that buyers have paid for a card. This represents a huge upgrade and is a great change for players as the market price should be more representative of the true cash value of a card.
Meanwhile, Standard is readjusting to the second week of Eldritch Moon spoilers. It seems like the biggest winner was the Spirits tribe, which got a couple of extremely powerful new rares in Spell Queller and Mausoleum Wanderer. As a result, the best Spirit from Shadows over Innistrad—Rattlechains—jumped 285% this week to $3.67. While it will take some testing to know for sure, Spirits is already being compared by some pros to Faeries, and the deck seems like an early front-runner to be tier one in Standard.
In not so fun news, the Reserved List buyout trend is getting crazier and crazier. People are now buying out completely unplayable cards simply because they are on the Reserved List. This week's targets included Island of Wak-Wak (up 195 % to $132.95), Mirror Universe (up 135% to $137), and Gravity Sphere (up 503% to $68.19). While the new prices of these cards are unlikely to stick, it's also unlikely that they'll fall all the way back to their pre-spike price. If you need a random Reserved List card for your Commander deck, or you need to finish your playset of something for Legacy, you might as well get your copies now. Based on this week's buyouts, it's clear that no Reserved List card, regardless of how janky or unplayable it may be, is safe.
