Conspiracy 2 Spoilers |
|
Conspiracy: Take the Crown spoilers kicked off this week officially with a bang! We received some awesome new cards like Daretti, Ingenious Iconoclast and Leovold, Emissary of Trest, and got a big surprise with expensive reprints like Serum Visions, Show and Tell, and Berserk. The official complete spoiler will be revealed on Monday, but we pretty much know all of the cards from the preview drafts over the weekend. Check out SaffronOlive's quick financial take below, and be sure to check out all the spoilers at mtg.fish/cn2. Read More

Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
The big financial news this week is Conspiracy: Take the Crown and just how much value Wizards decided to stuff into the set. With the preview event spoilers, we pretty much have the full spoiler and the value is just off the charts. At retail prices, the average value of a mythic is $15.26, the average rare value is $2.49, and there are some pricey uncommons in Beast Within, Ghostly Prison, and Serum Visions. This means two things: First, it should be fairly easy to break even opening a box of Conspiracy 2, and second, the prices of some really important constructed cards like Inquisition of Kozilek and Show and Tell are going to crumble in the coming weeks.
As far as Standard and Modern are concerned, most of the gains this week can be tied to two decks. In Standard, most of the weekly winners are from the UR Fevered-Alchemist Burn deck. Collective Defiance jumped 42% to nearly $6, Fevered Visions increased 77% to $1.66, and a bunch of other cards from the deck like Shivan Reef, Wandering Fumarole and Thing in the Ice are showing smaller gains. While I expect Collective Defiance to come back to earth, the other cards could stick—the deck doesn't lose much at rotation, and the cards it does lose are replaceable (outside of two copies of Jace, Vryn's Prodigy).
In Modern, the big story is the continued rise of Dredge, which backed up last weekend's performance by putting a player in the Top 8 of the SCG Invitational. As a result, Bloodghast, Bridge from Below, and Greater Gargadon all increased another 25–40% this week. I still have the feeling that the success of the deck is fleeting and that once players start packing graveyard hate, things will change, but prices are fairly sticky in Modern, so it seems unlikely that any of these cards will return to their previous lows in the near future.
Finally, we are currently in the middle of Zendikar flashback drafts on Magic Online; it's a good time to pick up some extremely important Modern cards at a discount. While fetch lands are down a little (between 6–20%), they have already started to recover, hitting their low a couple of days ago. On the other hand, Dredge staple Bloodghast has lost nearly half of its value along with Pyromancer Ascension. If you are looking to get any of these cards, or other Zendikar rares or mythics, on the cheap, the next few days will likely be your best chance.
