Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week was a busy in the finance world, with much of the news tied to the release of Dominaria. The two biggest winners in Standard come from the set, with Teferi, Hero of Dominaria and Lyra Dawnbringer, climbing 38% and 24% respectively to about $20 after being heavily played over the first week of the new Standard format. Generally speaking, Dominaria cards will start to trend downwards over the next couple of months as the set is opened, so if you have cards from prerelease or release weekend, your best bet is to trade them away while their prices are high.
Meanwhile, Firesong and Sunspeaker—the Dominaria buy-a-box promo that wasn't printed in the actual set—is currently somewhere in the $15-$18 range, although it's hard to figure out exactly since it isn't in stock at most of the big vendors and copies on Ebay are scarce. This makes it the 5th most expensive card from Dominaria, tied with Standard staple History of Benalia and right behind Lyra Dawnbringer and Teferi, Hero of (em>Dominaria</em), even though it has yet to see play in any competitive format. What the future holds for the Boros legend is hard to figure out. Will people start to sell their copies, or will vendors have to start increasing their buylist prices to get them in stock? Only time will tell, but hopefully Wizards will learn a lesson about releasing unique cards as promos.
Finally, in casual formats Dominaria is still making waves, with Elvish Farmer, Psychotrope Thallid, and Utopia Mycon all doubling or even tripling in price this week thanks to Slimefoot, the Stowaway driven hype for Saprolings in Commander. It's time to dig through your bulk to see if you have any copies sitting around. If you do, selling now could be a good way to pay for a draft or two of Dominaria.
