Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive

Mishra's Bauble Thoughtseize Karador, Ghost Chieftain

The big financial news of the week were related to the Iconic Masters prerelease events at HasCon, which gave us the complete spoiler of the set. While Iconic Masters won't release until November, the set is overflowing with Modern staples that will likely take a big hit in price. In fact, prices are already dropping for many of the coming reprints including Mishra's Bauble, Thoughtseize, and Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite. If you can get a reasonable price, it's probably best to sell now and then look to rebuy over the winter while prices are low. While there are too many cards to talk about, you can see the entire list here.

The other big announcement of the week was Magic Arena, which is Magic's newest digital offering and seems to fall somewhere between Hearthstone and Magic Duels. From a financial perspective, most of the immediate impact has been on Magic Online as people debate the future of the program, causing prices to drop (but not crash) thanks to a lack of confidence in the platform's future. While it's possible that Magic Arena displaces Magic Online eventually, the short and mid-term future of Magic Online seems fairly safe since Arena will only have Standard sets and Wizards has yet to confirm "real" limited on the platform. At this point I'm not planning on selling my collection, at least until we get more info on the pricing and formats offered on Magic Arena.

Finally, the rest of the finance world looks pretty much like last week, highlighted by continuing Reserved List buyouts in Legacy (ignore), Commander-driven price spikes in Modern (Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund, Maelstrom Nexus, and Yomiji, Who Bars the Way) (all up between 50$ and 300%), and rotation based adjustments in Standard with The Scarab God up again (up 25% to $20) , and Skysovereign, Consul Flagship starting to rise (up 12% to $2.81).
