In Standard, this big news this week isn't Dominaria, but an older card that has risen to prominence alongside all of the powerful UW Cards from Magic's newest set: Settle the Wreckage has more than doubled in price to $16. The card not only survives rotation this fall, but shows up in Modern as well, which could help it maintain at least some value over the long term. If you are looking for copies, remember that you get one in the Second Sun Control Challenger Deck (which is about $21 on Amazon at the moment) alongside four Regal Caracals, four Fumigates, and four Irrigated Farmlands. The Challenger Deck is a much better deal than simply buying Settle the Wreckage at the post-spike price.
Speaking of Dominaria, so far the set hasn't lost all that much value. On release day, buying a single copy of each card in the set individually would set you back about $350; today it's about $340. While lots of individual cards are dropping in value, when you look at the set as a whole, these decreases are mostly offset by cards like Teferi, Hero of Dominaria, Lyra Dawnbringer, and Karn, Scion of Urza increasing significantly in price.
Finally, most of the price movement in older (non-Reserved List) cards this week is tied to casual themes. River Kelpie increased 111% to about $9 as a new staple in Muldrotha, the Gravetide Commander decks, while Thrumming Stone jumped 54% to just under $14 with Rat Colony generating new interest in the "play your entire deck" combo. Finally, Patron of the Moon spiked 260% to over $6. Even though the card doesn't directly reference Wizards, most Moonfolk are Wizards, so getting new support for the tribe in Dominaria has brought the Spirit along for the ride.
