Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive

The Scarab God Arcane Signet Morophon, the Boundless

This week, the biggest finance news is tied to the rise of Grixis Control in Pioneer with two key finishers shooting up in value. First, The Scarab God jumped 57% to $34, while Nicol Bolas, the Ravager increased 26% to $29.50. While the power of both cards is well-known from their time in Standard, it wasn't long ago that The Scarab God was under $15 and Nicol Bolas, the Ravager was around $10. Holding both through the Players Tour events in a couple of months is probably fine, although if you have no interest in playing Grixis or UBx Control in Pioneer, it's hard to see the price of either climbing too much more. Selling now and spending the proceeds on cards that you'll actually use is more than reasonable. It's probably also worth digging through your collection for other former Standard all-star mythics, just on the off-chance that they too develop into Pioneer staples and see an increase in demand and price.

Meanwhile in the world of cards that are technically legal but generally not all that playable in Standard, we finally got the long-awaited restock on Brawl decks. If you didn't get a chance to pick up your copies the first time around, check again with your LGS or big box store. The increase in supply is finally driving down prices on some of the most important cards in the set, with Arcane Signet dipping down 14% to below $7 and Shimmer Dragon and Korvold, Fae-Cursed King each ticking down on the week as well. While the Korvold, Fae-Cursed King deck is a slam dunk with Korvold itself hovering at just under $20 (roughly the cost of the Brawl precon) thanks to Standard play, the combination of Commanders staples and shocklands means that all of the Brawl decks still offer fine value for their price tag.

Finally, in the world of Commander, Morophon, the Boundless is on the rise, increasing 38% on the week to $9. The shapeshifting legend is among the most popular commanders overall in the Commander format and the most popular Modern Horizons commander. As a mythic, it could easily keep increasing in price over the next several years as the supply of Modern Horizons dries up. While there's always a chance of a reprint in a random Commander-focused product, assuming Morophon, the Boundless isn't reprinted in the near future, it's likely that we'll be looking back on its current $9 price as cheap. If you think you might need a copy or two for Commander, I'd lean towards picking them up now rather than waiting and risking a future price hike.
