This Week in Legacy: European Legacy Masters 2025
Howdy folks! It's time yet again for another edition of This Week in Legacy! I'm your host, Joe Dyer, and this week we're going to be talking all about European Legacy Masters 2025! In addition we've got some Challenges to look at from last week.
Without further ado, let's dive right in!
European Legacy Masters 2025
This past weekend in Belgium was the culmination of this year's European Legacy Masters tournament series as part of the Eternal Mania Weekend in Hasselt, Belgium. This is a yearly series where players qualify from different countries in Europe via qualifier events to represent their country in the event. It's a really solid and interesting idea that I wish we could somehow replicate in the states, because it really is very cool.
The Eternal Mania event also had two very large Legacy tournaments as part of its weekend, and because of how big those data sets are and deadlines and stuff, I'm going to be talking about both of those events next week as part of the primary focus of next week's article.
This event definitely had some really sick prizes, including a sweet trophy plus a custom painting created specifically for the event. The event organizers were also kind enough to send us some screenshots of the event and of that killer painting. Thanks so much to them for providing this plus some great information on the event overall.
Really solid prizes overall and looked like a great event. This event had a total of 111 qualified players, which is pretty awesome indeed.
You can find all of the decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.
Dimir Reanimator was the most played deck by a little over half to Dimir Tempo, the next played deck. Its win rate was quite good too at around 55.88% non-mirror. Cephalid Breakfast and Izzet Tempo did pretty well here as did decks below the cut like Nadu Midrange and Cloudpost.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
Deck Name | Placing | Player Name |
---|---|---|
Cephalid Breakfast | 1st | Johan Larsson |
Cephalid Breakfast | 2nd | Gustav Schmidt |
Nadu Cradle Combo | 3rd | Adam Gerwatowski |
Mono Green Cloudpost | 4th | Lucas Mietton |
Mystic Forge Combo | 5th | Martin Lamr |
Mystic Forge Combo | 6th | Caue Rodergas |
Dimir Reanimator | 7th | Kristian Janda |
Nadu Midrange Combo | 8th | Frédéric Collomb-Muret |
Definitely overall a very interesting Top 8. At the end of the event it was a Cephalid Breakfast v Cephalid Breakfast finals match, with two absolute heavyweights. In one corner, the reigning EU Eternal Weekend Champ Johan Larsson, and in the other Gustav Schmidt, the Swedish Legacy Champion.
The differences in these lists are fairly minute overall. Larsson is eschewing a main deck Teferi for a sideboard copy in addition to a main deck Ghost Vacuum. Gustav has some main deck acceleration in a single Lotus Petal. Both decks have fairly similar sideboards although Orim's Chant and Exorcise are both pretty sweet additions.
Overall definitely an exciting finals match I am sure. as both players are very good at this deck and have a lot of experience with it.
Legacy Challenge 32 8/6/2025
The first Challenge event of the week was the Wednesday event. This event had 47 players in it thanks to the MTGO website.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.
Dimir Reanimator was the most popular deck of the event, and its win rate was pretty solid. Eldrazi also looked good here.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
---|---|---|
Mardu Energy | 1st | karatedom |
Oops! All Spells | 2nd | luvadepedreiro |
Dimir Reanimator | 3rd | Capitano_CL |
Mystic Forge Combo | 4th | Xenowan |
Mystic Forge Combo | 5th | musasabi |
Colorless Painter | 6th | XanaZero |
Eldrazi | 7th | boytriton |
Dimir Reanimator | 8th | Richie727 |
Very interesting Top 8 here. At the end of the event it was Mardu Energy that won.
Have been seeing a lot of this deck lately. It's interesting how good this shell seems to be doing, but it has a TON of discard options and a lot of aggressive play patterns, so I can see the appeal. Every time I've tried the Mardu version I've felt the manabase has been incredibly awkward, but this doesn't look hateful.
In Second Place we had Oops.
There isn't a ton of raw innovation happening in this shell now it seems. This looks fairly stock for what it is.
Legacy Challenge 32 8/8/2025
The second Challenge event of the week was the Friday event. This event had 42 players in it thanks to the MTGO website.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.
Big spread of decks all at four copies. Dimir Tempo and Eldrazi both looked solid, as did Dimir Reanimator and Doomsday. Mystic Forge didn't look too hot here.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
---|---|---|
Eldrazi | 1st | Raydan |
Dimir Tempo | 2nd | harmonywoods |
Eldrazi | 3rd | MdvWin |
Dimir Reanimator | 4th | Munchlax446 |
Dimir Tempo | 5th | elpariah |
Dimir Reanimator | 6th | Lord_Beerus |
Dimir Reanimator | 7th | achillies27 |
Doomsday | 8th | yamayama |
Quite a bit of Dimir Reanimator and Tempo, but the event was won by Eldrazi.
Very solidly aggressive list here. Without Sowing Mycospawn we have Eldrazi Linebreaker which is great at closing games out quickly.
In Second Place we had Dimir Tempo.
This is a fairly straightforward stock list. Not much to really speak of here.
Legacy Challenge 32 8/9/2025
The third Challenge event of the week was the Saturday event. This event had 34 players in it thanks to the MTGO website.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.
Both Dimir Reanimator and Mystic Forge were the most popular decks, with both having reasonable win rates. Dimir's was pretty gross, despite the fact that it didn't even win the event.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
---|---|---|
Mystic Forge Combo | 1st | Selfeisek |
Jeskai Control | 2nd | Alpha_Omega |
Dimir Reanimator | 3rd | _epinephrine |
Dimir Reanimator | 4th | j_money10 |
Dimir Reanimator | 5th | Munchlax336 |
Mono White Energy | 6th | DominiqueTutor |
Izzet Tempo | 7th | Coldsnaps |
Nadu Midrange Combo | 8th | einstein9998 |
Very interesting Top 8. At the end of the event it was Mystic Forge that won.
No Tezzeret to see here, but the deck just looks solid regardless. Lots of protection in Defense Grid is good.
In Second Place we had Jeskai Control.
The Wizard route has been very good for Jeskai, as Flame of Anor is impressively easy to turn on. Honestly, the card here is Thundertrap Trainer. That card is amazing and cute.
Legacy Challenge 32 8/10/2025 - 1
The fourth Challenge event of the week was the first Sunday event. This event had 35 players in it thanks to the MTGO website.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.
Dimir Reanimator and Red Stompy were both the most played decks. Dimir had a subpar win rate despite having a Top 8 appearance. Death and Taxes looked good here.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
---|---|---|
Elves | 1st | Testacular |
Red Painter | 2nd | boyxiaoliu |
Lands | 3rd | Thebigempty92 |
Mystic Forge Combo | 4th | musasabi |
Dimir Reanimator | 5th | Eureka22422 |
Izzet Tempo | 6th | Lord_Beerus |
Beanstalk Control (Non-Yorion) | 7th | TeaW1thRum |
Death and Taxes - BW (Yorion) | 8th | adamwasmo |
Pretty cool Top 8 and all, but HERE COMES ELVES WITH THE STEEL CHAIR.
Holy cow, it's just like... classic Elves. WILD. Eladamri, Korvecdal is a SWEET card here. Being able to UNCOUNTERABLY put a Craterhoof Behemoth from hand into play by tapping two Nettle Sentinel seems insane.
In Second Place we had Red Painter.
This is a solid-looking Painter list. I love Phyrexian Devourer and Agatha's Soul Cauldron.
Legacy Challenge 32 8/10/2025 - 2
The final Challenge event of the week was the Sunday event. This event had 62 players, thanks to the MTGO website.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.
Dimir Reanimator was the most played deck and it was absolutely solid in terms of win rate. Lands also did very well, as did Doomsday.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
---|---|---|
Dimir Reanimator | 1st | BressD1 |
Doomsday | 2nd | wonderPreaux |
Mardu Energy | 3rd | morsaaa |
Dimir Reanimator | 4th | Erik157751 |
Lands | 5th | Thebigempty92 |
Lands | 6th | mrpresswurst |
Sneak and Show | 7th | mizu1015 |
Mono Black Reanimator | 8th | Magic_Dads71522 |
Very interesting Top 8. At the end of the event it was Dimir Reanimator that won.
Very straightforward Dimir Reanimator list here. Not much frills.
In Second Place we had Doomsday.
Quantum Riddler is a fairly interesting card here. I'm not sure how good it is, but it's certainly an interesting card.
