Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |

One of the biggest gainers this week was Tombstone Stairwell, a Reserved List rare from Mirage that nearly tripled in price to $88. The spike is largely due to its synergy with Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER, where the hordes of temporary Zombie tokens it produces create a cascade of death triggers—potentially enough to wipe the entire table in a single turn cycle. Phil may also deserve some of the blame for shouting out the card on a recent podcast. At this point, Tombstone Stairwell feels too expensive to be compelling, either from a financial or gameplay perspective. While it’s exciting that players are finally recognizing its power, $88 is a lot to spend on a card that fits mostly into sacrifice or aristocrat archetypes.
Meanwhile, the Champions of Kamigawa uncommon Aura of Dominion shot up from bulk to nearly $9, driven by the new Edge of Eternities commander Kilo, Apogee Mind (borderless). The card enables repeated tap/untap loops to proliferate multiple times in a turn, making it a powerful combo piece. The danger with price spikes like this—especially for old uncommons—is that they often collapse after a reprint. But for now, it’s worth digging through your bulk and selling into the hype.
Finally, Agatha's Soul Cauldron is now our latest $80 Standard card, jumping 38% this week. It's the centerpiece of the top-tier "Vivi Cauldron" deck in Standard, and it's also making waves in combo decks in formats as far back as Legacy. Its meteoric rise—from under $30 just before the release of Final Fantasy to $80 today—underscores a broader lesson: cards with cross-format potential, especially mythics, can explode in value quickly. If you spot one early, it might be worth grabbing a few copies before the price catches up.
