Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week the biggest finance news is Dominaria with prerelease events this weekend and the official release of the set coming on Friday. For a full breakdown of the set's value, make sure to check out the Expected Value article going live Sunday night, but the TLDR is that the set is solid, with the average booster box yielding about $100 in value thanks to an abnormally strong group of mythics. This means that if you enjoy cracking boxes, Dominaria is essentially a freeroll at current prices.
As far as individual cards, the biggest Standard winners of the week are both from Dominaria. History of Benalia (up 83% to over $17) and Jaya's Immolating Inferno (up almost 200% to just under $2) lead the way. While the overall trajectory of the set will almost certainly be down over the next couple of weeks, expect to see some other spikes as players figure out which of the powerful looking cards from the set are actually playable. Sell your prerelease opens into the hype before supply increases and prices drop.
Finally, the biggest Modern winner of the week is also attached to Dominaria, with Power Conduit jumping nearly 500% to about $5 thanks to its synergies with Sagas. While this is probably more of a casual plan than the foundation of a competitive Modern deck, the huge spikes of random casual cards has become a tradition every set release. It wouldn't be surprising to see more new Commander staples from Dominaria spike over the next couple of weeks, so pick up the cards you need early to avoid paying more in the future.
