Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week, the big news was a handful of early Amonkhet spoilers; the cards and mechanics from Magic's newest set drove the Magic finance world this week. In Standard, the biggest news was the cycling dual lands (and cycling in general) and a couple of cards that work well with various cyclers spiked in anticipation, including Splendid Reclamation (up 68% to $0.99) and The Gitrog Monster (up 22% to $1.54). My gut is that, while fun, these ideas will end up being too cute or slow for competitive play, but the price of these cards is low enough that it doesn't hurt to have a playset just in case they do pan out.
In Modern, we see many of the same influences with Life from the Loam doubling in price to around $30 a copy thanks to its synergy with the cycling lands, while some cards from Living End (Living End itself and Fulminator Mage) and various Delirium-based decks (Mishra's Bauble) increasing as well. Again, we'll have to wait and see, but all of these cards are already staples in various decks and formats, so it's possible prices remain high for a while.
Finally, also in Modern, most of the chase cards from Modern Masters 2017 are up again on the week, and it seems unlikely that they sharply decline in the near future. The demand for things like fetchlands and Liliana of the Veil apparently outweighs the increase in supply, so if you've been waiting to get your copies, you probably should be doing it sooner rather than later (or hold out hope that Wizards releases a bunch more sealed boxes at some point this summer).
