Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
The biggest finance news of the week was the release of the full spoiler for Hour of Devastation. While we'll have a full expected value breakdown next week, at first glance the set looks fairly low in value. As far as mythics, there's only two worth more than $10 with Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh leading the way at $30, and The Scarab God sneaking in at $12. Meanwhile, as far as rares, only Ramunap Excavator and Solemnity break the $5 mark. While the set looks like a lot of fun to play with, it doesn't seem to be the type of set you open for value (at least right now).
The prices movement from the cards currently in Standard seem to suggest that Hour of Devastation isn't expected to make much of an immediate impact. The biggest winner of the week was Regal Caracal which increased 26% on the potential for a GW Cat deck with the help of Pride Sovereign. Other than that, there were no real changes of note.
Finally, in Modern, the biggest story is probably Thoughtseize. After being reprinted in Theros, it looked like the price would never recover, but since March, the price of Theros printings has nearly doubled from $11 to $22, and the Lorwyn original is back up over $50 after being as low as $30. While this is likely (at least in part) due to the rise of Death's Shadow, it also suggests that Modern staples that get reprinted still have the power to recover eventually; it just takes a lot longer than it used to.
