Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive

Hydroid Krasis Biogenic Ooze Massacre Wurm

This week in the world of finance, it's Simic week. In Standard, the two biggest gainers were Ravnica Allegiance mythics from the guild with both Hydroid Krasis and Biogenic Ooze doubling in price to $30 and $12 respectively. Early Standard results suggest that three-color decks featuring these cards are among the best new decks in Standard, although it's worth pointing out that Ravnica Allegiance only officially released a couple of days ago and a lot could change over the next month as we head towards our first Pro Tour of the season at the end of February. While Biogenic Ooze sticking at over $10 wouldn't be a surprise, it takes a lot for a Standard-only mythic to remain at $30, so it might be worth cashing out extra copies of Hydroid Krasis now while the price is high.

In older formats, Massacre Wurm increased 95% on the week to about $25. The Scars of Mirror mythic has always maintained a decent amount of value as a Commander all-star, but the six-drop has started to show up in more competitive formats as both a reanimation target in Legacy and in a weird Eldritch Evolution deck in Modern. The only problem is that, thanks to casual demand, Massacre Wurm is an easy target for reprinting in just about any supplemental product and when this happens, it will put a huge dent in its price. If you don't desperately need a copy, it's probably best to just wait for the eventual reprinting.

Finally, while Magic Arena is all the rage at the moment, and rightly so, Magic Online is incredibly cheap. Of the four most-played decks in Standard, three cost less than $25. While you don't get all of the flash of Arena, in a weird way Magic Online is now the budget option for testing at least some Standard decks. While new Ravnica Allegiance cards command a premium, the rest of the sets in Standard are all incredibly cheap. If you're looking for a way to try out a new Standard deck before investing your wildcards on Arena, keep Magic Online in mind.

Land destruction in Pioneer sounds like a silly plan—Wizards stopped printing good land destruction way before Pioneer came to be. But can the greed of Arena players running almost no basic lands make it possible? Let's see!
