Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in Magic finance is mostly about Standard. Last week we had the first Spotlight Series event in Atlanta, and cards from decks that performed well are moving up in price. By%age the biggest gainer was This Town Ain't Big Enough which increased more than 400% to over $3 after showing up in a ton of different decks alongside Stormchaser's Talent (up 70% to $20) and Nowhere to Run (up $140% to $3). Meanwhile, a GW Token deck designed to fight against the This Town Ain't Big Enough meta had key pieces including Pawpatch Recruit (extended) (up 268% to $3.50) and Collector's Cage (up 156% to $10) spike.
Lat week we talked about how Seasoned Pyromancer was on the rise as the most popular replacement for The One Ring (bundle) in Energy deck in Modern. Well, this week the three-drop doubled up again, gaining 110% to nearly $20. A quick look at the card's price chart suggests that it's momentum has finally slowed. This might be around the peak for the time being.
Finally in strangest news the Weatherlight uncommon Phyrexian Furnace jumped more than 200% this week to $5 after briefly hitting $9, and I can't really figure out why. I dug around on the internet for a while and the best I could find is some premodern decks playing the card, which doesn't seem like enough to send a bulk card up to almost $10, but who knows. Regardless, if you have some Weatherlight bulk sitting around, it's probably time to dig through it and pull out any copies of Phyrexian Furnace you can find.
