Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in Standard most of the big finance news is related to our early Ravnica Allegiance spoilers. Hadana's Climb more than double in price with the revelation that the Simic mechanic would be the monstrous-like adapt which involves putting counters on creatures. Pelt Collector followed close behind, up 92% to $4. Meanwhile, Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca started to creep up as well based on the spoiling of the new legendary Merfolk Zegana, Utopian Speaker. Expect more big swings when preview season officially begins on January 2nd. If you need cards from guilds coming in Ravnica Allegiance, it might be worth picking them up now to avoid future spikes.
Meanwhile in Modern the biggest winner of the week is Worldspine Wurm which jumped 43% to over $11. The primary home for the Wurm is Grishoalbrand, which happened to have two of its most expensive cards reprinted in Ultimate Masters (Through the Breach and Goryo's Vengeance), making the deck much more accessible. As a result of the decks new, cheaper price it seems like quite a few players are buying in, increasing the demand (and price) of Worldspine Wurm.
Finally, in the world of Magic Online, prices have stopped declining, but in general cards are still super cheap. A lot of decks we've played on Budget Magic in the past that were $30 or $40 when we first played them are now $15 or $20, with some as low as $4 or $5. As a result, it's never been cheaper to play formats like Modern. Even if Magic Arena eventually leads to the end of Magic Online, it's hard to go wrong at current prices where you can buy entire budget decks for the price of a cup of coffee.
