Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
We're currently less than a week away from the release of Ultimate Masters and the expected value of the set is still looking solid despite dropping about $15 in the past week thanks to an across the board price drop from rares and uncommons. Even with the decrease, the average box should have north of $300 in value (and perhaps close to $350 depending on how you value the foil in every pack) with the Ultimate Box Topper adding a nice bit of bonus value.
Meanwhile, in Modern the general trend is cards that are being reprinted in Ultimate Masters are on the decline, while important cards that missed the reprinting (fetchlands, Surgical Extraction, Aether Vial) are on the rise. If you're planning to use Ultimate Masters as a way to get into Modern, think about picking up the non-Ultimate Masters cards you need sooner rather than later.
Finally, Standard prices are mostly quiet, but both Treasure Map (up 24% to $6.48) and Star of Extinction (up 16% to $8.99) are on the rise. Before rotation these cards were mostly too slow to compete, but in our current, grindy Standard format, they are gaining traction as four-of main deck cards. If you need either card to play with, don't be afraid to pick them up; but remember that the prices of Standard cards typically peak over the winter months, so it's possible Treasure Map and Star of Extinction are nearing their ceiling.
