Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive

Liliana, Dreadhorde General Bolas's Citadel Fury of the Horde

The biggest finance news of the week is War of the Spark. As we move from prerelease towards release next weekend, cards are starting to separate themselves from the pack based on early results. Some of the early winners include Liliana, Dreadhorde General (up 35% to $25), God-Eternal Kefnet (up 21% to over $14), and Bolas's Citadel (up 44% to just under $5). Including these increases, the average value of a mythic from the set is around $10, which is quite high. When you consider the higher-than-usual number of valuable rares and uncommons thanks to the planeswalkers, War of the Spark looks like a solid set to open if you enjoy cracking boxes. If you can manage to snag the buy-a-box promo Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge (currently $27), it's very likely you'll open more value in cards than you pay for the box.

In Modern, Fury of the Horde was bought out this week, jumping 260% to $10. The card is key to various Griselbrand or Narset, Enlightened Master cheat-into-play combo decks which benefit greatly from the London mulligan rule. However, we just had a Modern Mythic Championship and Fury of the Horde was completely missing from the event. It might be that Fury of the Horde was pre-Mythic Championship speculation gone awry. Without pro level results to back it up, expect Fury of the Horde to trend back down in coming weeks.

Finally, it was announced this week that the next paper Mythic Championship will once again feature Modern. Without an impending paper Mythic Championship to highlight the Standard format and rotation about five months away, the time has come to dump whatever cards you have from Ixalan block, Dominaria, and Core Set 2019 that you aren't using and don't want to save for Modern. Prices have already started to dip and will continue to drop over the summer. The sooner you can sell or trade away these cards, the more of a nest egg you can save up for this summer's supplemental products or post-rotation Standard this fall.
