Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive
|
|
This week the big finance news is all about Pro Tour Shadows over Innistrad, which had a huge impact on Standard prices.
First off, by percentage gained, the two biggest winners were Dark Petition (up 547% to $8.34) and Seasons Past (up 364% to $9.99). Both cards were the backbone of the GB Control deck that took Jon Finkel to the Top 8. Both of these feel like fool's gold for two reasons: First, if you break down the standings, Finkel was the only player who managed to get at least 7 wins with the deck. Second, and probably more important, the deck looks very challenging to play optimally; I expect it to post a lacking record over the coming weeks when played by mere mortals.
Next, Pyromancer's Goggles doubled up again from around $10 before the tournament to about $20 today. Don't forget, it was only two weeks ago that the artifact was a bulk mythic, selling for only $2. Two different decks in the Top 8 featured the card, and I expect it will continue to see play moving forward. However, the next week will likely be the peak price for Pyromancer's Goggles. As the Pro Tour hype wears off and fall rotation approaches, the price will head back down to $5 or less.
Other winners include Liliana, Heretical Healer (up 42% to nearly $30) and Cryptolith Rite (up 123% to $8.38) from the GB Aristcrats deck that took LSV to the Top 8, Languish (up 121% to $8.69) was a key card in several decks, but especially in Seth Manfield's Esper Superfriends, and Nahiri, the Harbinger (up 19% to $12.48) which made the Top 8 in Luis Salvatto's RW Eldrazi Goggles deck.
One last reminder: sell into the hype. I mentioned seven different cards in this update and I expect all seven to be worth less a month or two from now. As such, the sooner you sell, the more profit you'll lock in.
