Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in Magic finance, as we wait for Secrets of Strixhaven spoilers to start in earnest on Tuesday, is led by Declaration of Naught, with the enchantment counterspell gaining more than 200% to $29, apparently because someone made a short about it. The card sees almost no play in Commander and literally none in other formats, although it is a funny way to make one opponent really angry by naming their commander and countering it for a single mana every time they try to cast it. While trolling your friends does have value, I'm not sure it's worth $33. I expect we'll see the price start to trend back down, because it's hard for me to imagine many people actually playing the card.
Piggybacking on the recent release of the Dandan Secret Lair drop, the original Arabian Nights printing of Dandan jumped nearly 200% to $59. That's a ton to pay for a card that's unplayable outside of Dandan, especially since you need a bunch of copies to make a Dandan deck in the first place (the Secret Lair had ten Dandans). But since Dandan is basically a board game that you keep together forever without ever needing to update or upgrade, I could see investing in the best, most blinged-out version of its namesake card if you really love the format, which is clearly the Arabian Nights printing. Thankfully, if you just want to build a Dandan deck, you can still snag the Chronicles and 5th Edition reprints for under $3.
Finally, a new version of Witherbloom called Witherbloom, the Balancer leaked from Secrets of Strixhaven, and the mythic Dragon gives all of your instants and sorceries affinity for creatures. This led to Sprout Swarm being bought out and shooting up to between $8 and $15 depending on the printing, since buyback lets it easily generate infinite creatures with the new Witherbloom.
