Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in Magic finances is highlighted by another original printing of an old card spiking because of Premodern, this time Planeshift's Quirion Dryad, which was bought out and gained more than 1,000% to $16. A deck called Gro-A-Tog is currently a popular option in the format, and Quirion Dryad is one of its key cards, which is driving the demand. As usual, the good news about this Premodern buyout is that the reprints are still cheap, with the Core Set 2021 Quirion Dryad still going for less than $0.25.
Speaking of Premodern, the Reserved List rare Meditate more than doubled up to $60. In the somewhat distant past, the card draw spell was playable in Legacy Storm, and now it's doing something similar in a Premodern Brain Freeze (Encyclopedia) deck. It's going to be interesting to see what happens with all of these suddenly expensive Premodern cards long term. If the format continues to grow, they'll likely remain fairly expensive, but if the format proves to be a fad and demand fades, they could start to drop.
Finally, the Murders at Karlov Manor Commander card Prisoner's Dilemma (extended) nearly doubled up to $8 this week. The card has shown up a few times on Commander Clash, and I'll admit it's one of the rare cards that makes the game more fun even when it's killing you. While it's hard for me to imagine the card being the best win condition for any Commander deck, if you want to generate memorable stories at your Commander tables, it's a great option.
