Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in Magic finance, we got some super early Secrets of Strixhaven spoilers, and they’re already moving the market. One of the two mythics previewed was Lorehold, the Historian, a new Boros Miracles commander, which led to the old artifact Library of Leng shooting up several hundred% to between $5 and $15 depending on the printing (with the Alpha and Beta printings over $100, of course). The idea is that if you can get Library of Leng on the battlefield with Lorehold, the Historian, you can loot away an instant or sorcery, put it on top of your library, and then miracle it into play on the cheap with Lorehold’s ability the next turn. Thankfully, the artifact was reprinted several times in early core sets, which means that even with the new demand, the price shouldn’t get too out of control.
Meanwhile, Elvish Warmaster is on the rise, more than tripling to over $5 this week thanks to its synergy with High Perfect Morcant, where Elvish Warmaster offers you a free Elf (and a free blight trigger) once per turn whenever an Elf enters the battlefield. While Elvish Warmaster is a great Elves card, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is its short-term peak. In just the past couple of weeks we’ve already seen Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Secrets of Strixhaven, and Marvel Super Heroes spoilers. While High Perfect Morcant is one of the most popular new legends from Lorwyn Eclipsed, the Magic world moves so fast these days that players will be building the hot new thing from the next set before long. After all, we just discussed how Library of Leng was bought out due to a spoiler for a set that doesn’t even release until April.
Finally, in Premodern news, it was Cataclysm’s turn to spike this week. The Exodus printing of the Terravore deck staple gained nearly 200% to $39 after seeing increased play on Magic Online. The good news is that Cataclysm is not on the Reserved List, and you can snag copies of the The List reprint for less than $1. Despite the awkward aesthetics, the reprint is perfectly legal to play in Premodern.
