Single Scoop: Jund's Herald (Standard)


This episode will dive deeper into the janky side of standard. We're going to try to do a "combo" that requires a ton of set up, but if we can pull it off, it'll be a lot of fun. What's the combo you ask? Storm Herald + Colossification + Fling !!! What has changed since the last time this combo existed? We got another fling effect in Kazuul's Fury!

Gameplan

The plan is to self-mill as much as possible with these enablers:

We have a decent amount of self mill to keep our yard filled. Of course, this is scary in a meta with rogues so I threw a few copies of Chainweb Aracnir to hopefully slow down the deck but I can't imagine the match up going well for us. We just have to use the element of surprise to win against them. I also added Acolyte of Affliction to mill a little and return an enchantment if needed. Lastly, I wanted to mention that I'm trying Funeral Rites as a way to mill and be our Divination!

After filling our yard up, we're aiming to play Storm Herald to attach our milled Auras to send one big body flying at our opponent's face with Fling or Kazuul's Fury! The one thing about this deck is I'm not sure if I should throw more Auras into the deck so we don't have to rely as much on milling Colossification so I added Iroas's Blessing as removal and Mantle of the Wolf as an additional power boost.

A card that I'm trying out is Liliana, Waker of the Dead as she allows us to pitch Auras we don't want in our hand to the graveyard while also being able to grind down the opponent's hand size.

Conclusion

The deck is a ton of moving parts and struggles in the consistency department but when you get to pull off the combo, it feels like getting a surprise uppercut and it's absolutely hilarious. There's also a chance that I should be running more auras and Mill enablers to expedite the process. The deck by no means is worth the wild cards but it's just for fun and the idea screams best of one as you can get away with your memes before sideboarding. Who knows, maybe the newer sets will have something to make this more consistent? I can't ever see this deck being better than tier 2 but I've been wrong before!
