Single Scoop: Mardu Enchantments (Standard, Magic Arena)

A new set means new decks! There have been a few Mardu Enchantments lists running around so I thought I'd try my own take on it courtesy of my Twitch Chat's recommendation!

Gameplan

The version we're playing doesn't play Dance of the Manse or anything so we're looking to just win on the back of Fires of Invention and Outlaws' Merriment. Merriment is one of those cards I am not really high on but it is a fun card.

The randomness of it is what makes it a tad bit slow for best of one as Cavalcade of Calamity is everywhere and its no joke. I usually want my four mana enchantment to do something upon entering but when you think about going turn four Fires of Invention into Merriment, it can lead to a lot of fun. If we ever get to the point where we can stack multiples, we'll actually become the aggressive deck (WOWEE).

I know people are going to ask why don't we play four copies of this card but I just don't feel like it's good enough to take up four slots. Its great to get the turn three Fires of Invention but other than that, its just a 2/2 as we don't play Doom Foretold to ever grow this card and even then, the upside isn't worth it. I do like a few copies just not a full playset. Fires of Invention will be all the discounting we need. Speaking of Fires...

$ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00

If we land our Fires of Invention, we'll no longer need to tap our mana so this means we'll have a bunch of open mana so these two cards will definitely help us take advantage of that. Dawn of Hope does an excellent job of chump blocking with some lifegain involved. After playing the deck, Theater of Horrors I feel should go up in numbers as I only play two here but I think three copies is perfect. Its such a good engine when paired with Fires as we don't ever use our lands and can just burn opponents down.

Matchups

The deck is loaded with board wipes like Deafening Clarion and Kaya's Wrath so we should be able to push to the late game. My only concern is how soft we are to control decks. Let's just hope that nobody is playing a counterspell heavy deck against us. Simic Flash and Control feel abysmal as we usually play one thing a turn. We're mostly here to try to play the aggro and midrange decks as the value we get from our enchantments should pull us ahead. I think that anything with Field of the Dead will be a rough time as sweeping the board a ton won't actually kill the opponents. It'll just delay the army of 2/2 zombies. I'm also concerned as a lot of the Field of the Dead decks have Fae of Wishes(I love this card) and that can tutor up a Planar Cleansing, which will send us back to the stone ages. Because of this, I highly recommend being careful about how many enchantments and permanents you commit to the board if you feel they're playing Planar Cleansing. Its not much but we do play a Bedeck // Bedazzle which could increase if we see more Field decks in best of one.

Conclusion

The deck was a blast to play but after running through a chunk of games, I realized that we definitely need more card advantage and Theater of Horrors will help us with that. Also, Starfield Mystic didn't amazing even when we were able to get some turn three enchantments. Here's a rough draft of the list moving forward.

Just a reminder that this deck is for fun, but if you're looking to climb the ladder to mythic through best of one, I highly recommend Cavalcade Red or maybe some kind of Fires of Invention Superfriends deck. Thank you so much for watching and I'll see you at the next one!
