Single Scoop: Grixis Papi (Standard, Magic Arena)
Game Plan
Another format means another Grixis deck! However, Grixis looks like it could have an excellent tempo package built into it. I also know I haven't entirely given up on Delver of Secrets just yet. The new meta is the perfect to take Poppet Stitcher and Delver out to play! I'm also excited to revisit Manaform Hellkite !
Our token generators seem quite powerful when combined with the new legendary from Dominaria, Balmor, Battlemage Captain! Balmor is absurdly powerful as that pump ability comes with trample. It's also cheap enough to come down early while also surviving through burn damage like Play with Fire! It's also fine to hold onto Balmor until you've amassed enough tokens and then deploy him on the turn you fire off a ton of cheap spells to kill the opponent!
Another card that continues to impress is Ertai Resurrected. The card draw felt like a huge downside but I realized that Ertai being able to pick off anything or counter any spell or ability is worth the downside. Ertai continues to prove useful in any Dimir-based deck. It's a lot of mana but also gets around Spell Pierce and Negate style effects which are proving to pay off in dividends.
Conclusion
It is early into the meta so I think I want to try moving numbers around. I feel like It might finally be time for Poppet Stitcher & Manaform Hellkite to pop off. They've got so many pieces at play for them between Cut Down, Rona's Vortex , and numerous other powerful spells at their disposal to have legs to stand on.
