Fish Five-0: Big Boros

I've seen a few Big Red decks running around the meta and I thought the deck was fun but it needed a better sweeper. This is where Shatter the Sky and cards like Giant Killer and other cards came into play. Luckily, there was a list laying around from Hoshino Tomoyuki. I then modified the original list and here's the list I ended up with:

Gameplan

The deck deck could have some explosive turns like a turn five Ugin, the Spirit Dragon

$ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00

Though it has some early Ugin turns, it usually relies on all of its removal and sweepers to stay in the game. This makes it walk the line of a midrange and control deck.  The nice thing about adding white to this deck is it gives us more versatile answers as opposed to what the Big Red deck has. Having access to cards like Giant Killer, Shatter the Sky, and Elspeth Conquers Death is good enough to help the deck clear most of the board for our friendly spirit dragon.

Outside of Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, we have creatures like Bonecrusher Giant and Ox of Agonas to help us close out our games. Due to our deck's slow nature, Ox of Agonas is here to help us fight against Rogues and is just an all around good card for when we're hellbent and need to refuel. The other win condition that has impressed me a ton is Crawling Barrens. The card is such an annoying card to deal with if you're relying on shock effects and Heartless Act. The card forces our opponents to fire off Murderous Rider and Drown in the Loch to fully kill it. We usually don't deploy this threat until our opponents are exhausted of removal and cards so it can close the game out quickly. This might be the biggest loss of going two colors! Having a playset of Crawling Barrens is the only thing I miss from being Big Red.

Conclusion

To nobody's surprise, we played against a ton of Gruul Adventure decks and that deck is definitely the deck to beat in the current meta. Though Gruul Adventures is great, it struggles against an early Ugin, the Spirit Dragon. Of course, there are just some Gruul starts you can't beat without having interaction so it just felt good to add white cards like Giant Killer and the sweepers. I think the changes I'd like to make is to add more Fire Prophecy and Soul Sear. Other than that, the deck performed beautifully. I've been trying to figure out what are some other threats to add out of the sideboard to help us increase our aggression but I think our Escape creatures should be enough. Phoenix of Ash plays nice against Rogues and Control decks so I'm a fan. I haven't played against a ton of Doom Foretold decks but if you're expecting a meta of Doom Foretold, you can definitely increase the number of Heliod's Intervention in the sideboard!

As always, thanks for watching!
