Fish Five-0: Tarmogoyf is on Arena! (Historic, Magic Arena)

BOOM! 2012 is back! This time with Tarmogoyf in Historic thanks to the Anthologies. In Modern it was easy to have Goyf be a 5/6 by turn 3 but in Historic, we don't actually have any of the fetch lands outside of Fabled Passage. With that in mind, I wanted to try my best to make a Jund deck (Boomer/Richard Magic) for Historic, and I feel close! We have all the discard spells like Inquisition of Kozilek and Thoughtseize to bin as many spells as we can so we can go to town with Tarmogoyf. However, there are still some missing pieces that I had to find replacements for! I'm as surprised as many of you at how lackluster Anthologies was this time around as they definitely could've added Dark Confidant. Still, instead, we got the generic, bland version of him in Glint-Sleeve Siphoner!

Siphoner will serve as a way to hopefully draw us some cards while still being a cheap attacker. The Menace really does help get our little friend past any blockers. On top of that, we've got Tireless Tracker to accrue value for every land we play. This will be key in helping us grind out opponents! Along with that, we've also got Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet which by now, you all know I've been dying to play with on Arena. This card gives us much needed lifegain and a replacement effect that is much needed so we can be permanently done with things like Arclight Phoenix

Conclusion

I know what you're thinking, "Crim is this an article from 2013 or something?" ... the answer is nope! We're still pushing for a Jund deck like that in 2022! People can say what they will about Historic but the format is feeling more and more like Modern in its infancy, which is a good thing! As of right now, this deck is absurdly fair and really emulates that Jund experience of a deck that people think has a 50/50 matchup against the meta but is really about a 45/55%. You have no easy match ups and you'll work hard for every win. This is as close to the Jund experience as we can get on Arena and its pretty darn fun!

Thanks for watching the content.
