Commander Clash S4 Episode 20: Champions Week! (Breya vs. Lovisa vs. Nicol Bolas vs. Tishana)

Cue the intro music because it's Champions Week! The Goldfish crew are bringing back decks that won a previous Commander Clash game and will now return to the ring for one more grand battle! Let's see what champs return:

  • Jennifer draws tons of a cards while Going Wide with an army of Tokens led by Tishana, Voice of Thunder
  • Richard takes to the skies with the mightiest tribe of them all, Thopter Tribal, assembled with the help of Breya, Etherium Shaper
  • Tom takes the role of the Big Bad, aka the "heel" of the show, by running a flavorful deck built around Nicol Bolas
  • Tomer runs into the ring swinging with an Aggro Warrior Tribal deck led by a chair-wielding Lovisa Coldeyes

Four challengers enter the ring, but only one will be walking away with the belt. Which deck will be crowned the best of the best? Let's find out! And as usual, another quick reminder: if you like Commander Clash and other video content here on MTGGoldfish, make sure to subscribe to the MTGGoldfish Youtube Channel to keep up with the latest and greatest.

Post-Game Thoughts

Something I've been finding out about myself is I actually like playing Aggro decks in Commander -- at least as a break between durdly jank decks! However, I'm not actually a fan of Lovisa Coldeyes: my main issue with her is she wants you to play Tribal, but all the tribes she supports kind of suck. Of the three, the Warrior tribe has received the most love in MtG, but even then it's not much when you're restricted to only Red/Colorless cards. So what you're left with is a deck that has a handful of decent tricks and not much else.

If I were to build Warrior Tribal again, it would either be under Samut, Voice of Dissent, or better yet a partner deck with Reyhan, Last of the Abzan and Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder so you can every single good Warrior card, from Lovisa Coldeyes to Raiders' Spoils.

I'll try to bring more Aggro decks to future games and be less "merciful" when it comes to taking people out. I'm a durdly jank player first and foremost, but I do admit that I should switch things up more often.

Next Week: Masters 25!

We're celebrating the release of Masters 25 by building decks around the legendary creatures that are being reprinted in the set! There's a lot of powerful commander to choose from so it should be sweet!

Ashiok, Wicked Manipulator has a unique static ability letting us exile cards from our library rather than paying life for things. Can we turn it into a game-ending, library-exiling combo piece? Let's find out!
