Pioneer Peak: Luminous Kroxa


When spoilers season hit, the card that got me ridiculously hyped was Luminous Broodmoth. I love Mothra, and it also helps that this moth has some janky combo material with my favorite titan, Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger.....

Gameplan

We're way more like a fair midrange deck that has a really cute combo in the deck.

Once we assemble these three pieces, we go infinite as Solemnity makes it so none of our creatures can get counters. This means with Luminous Broodmoth out, the non-flying creature keeps dying and coming back. This is where Kroxa peaks his beautiful face and will constantly sacrifice himself and return. This will cause the opponent to discard their whole hand and then lose three life each time.

The combo itself is a bit slow but it is hilarious that we have main deck Solemnity to stop Walking Ballista and whatnot. We just need to control the board and attack our opponent's hand while we try to set up this sweet three-piece combo.

 

Conclusion

*** VIDEO SPOILERS ***

The deck did what we came to do (more than once) but we got blown away by the efficiency of Lotus Breach and a few others. The deck does suffer from its inability to fix it draws outside of Discovery // Dispersal. This means the deck could function a bit smoother if we found a way to add more effects like that, but in doing that, we lose out on the ability to interact with our opponents. We can probably cut Yarok's Fenlurker as that was just an additional way to be cute and constantly attack our opponent's hand. If we're also going to keep at attacking the opponent's hand, we could try something like Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage out of the sideboard for more fun. It'll be sort of like 8-rack but with a random Moth swooping in and winning the game. Maybe we add Yorion, Sky Nomad as a companion and go up to 80 cards but for now, the deck is dormant until I've got more time to tune it.
