Pioneer Peak: Going Rogue pt. 2

Since Zendikar Rising's arrival, I haven't touched a Rogue deck in Pioneer and that changes today!

Gameplan

We're the typical tempo deck that has a subtle mill game plan

$ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00

Our deck relies on a ton of cheap creatures that have flash and a little bit of evasion to get our engine going! Once we start filling up our opponent's graveyard, we'll have access to powerful counterspells like Drown in the Loch. The difference between the Pioneer build and the Standard build is that we have access to cards like Thoughtseize, Glint-Sleeve Siphoner, and Notion Thief! Thoughtseize is a powerful spell that can disrupt our opponent's early game long enough for us to set up. We've also got the Siphoner as a way to draw cards. Lastly, the Notion Thief is really just there as a "gotcha" card and isn't needed in the deck. However, it is fun to have something like Notion Thief to steal the opponent's draws.

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

Though Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet isn't a rogue, he's still one of the best creatures we can ask for post board as it can take over a game pretty fast. The replacement effect attached to Kalitas has huge appeal as we can eat up Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath and start creating an army of 2/2 zombies. And lastly, the lifeline is definitely welcomed as we do hit ourselves quite a bit with all of our spells and Kalitas can provide us with the much needed life.

Conclusion

The deck might need a bit of retooling as I felt that we often just ran out of cards so it's entirely possible that we add cards like Into the Story or some other way to refuel our hand. The deck always feels like it's one or two draws away from closing and that might be another big issue for the deck. We just weren't able to close out some games. Also, cards like Supreme Verdict absolutely embarrassed us so we need to look to cards like Shark Typhoon as it also helps us get around Teferi, Time Raveler

Either way, thanks for watching as I'm excited to try out a Mono-white(ish) deck next week!
