Much Abrew: Timeless Affinity

Hello everyone, and welcome to another edition of Much Abrew About Nothing! Simulacrum Synthesizer is one of the strongest cards from Outlaws of Thunder Junction. But it is strong enough to keep up in a super-degenerate, Show and Tell–fueled Timeless meta? That's what we're going to find out today as we give Timeless Affinity a try! The idea is to stick a Simulacrum Synthesizer or two (maybe with the help of Phyrexian Metamorph to copy it) and then play affinity cards like Thought Monitor and Myr Enforcer to quickly build a massive board and construct tokens to take over the game! Is Simulacrum Synthesizer strong enough for Timeless? Let's find out on today's Much Abrew!

Wrap-Up

Record-wise, we went 3-4 with Timeless Affinity, which is pretty middling. While the deck worked and we had some huge games involving [[Simulacrum Synthesizer], it turns out that Timeless is a super-strong format. And as weird as it sounds, we sometimes pop off, make 40 power on Turn 4, and still end up losing to our opponent playing a Show and Tell or a Craterhoof Behemoth with a big board of Field of the Dead tokens. All in all, Timeless Affinity felt fairly solid but certainly a couple of tiers below the strongest decks in the Timeless format.

The good news is that the deck has a lot of potential and some cards could come to Arena that would greatly increase its power. While the biggest is probably Urza's Saga, I'm not sure Wizards would actually add it to Timeless. But even something as simple as Memnite (which would be a huge upgrade over Inquisitive Puppet) would greatly increase the deck's power. Even if Timeless Affinity is sort of middling at the moment, I think that Simulacrum Synthesizer is strong enough that it's worth keeping the archetype in mind because with a couple more additions (which could come as soon as Modern Horizons 3 in a couple of months), it could end up being a real threat in the Timeless meta.

Conclusion

Anyway, that's all for today. As always, leave your thoughts, ideas, opinions, and suggestions in the comments, and you can reach me on Twitter at SaffronOlive or at SaffronOlive@MTGGoldfish.com.

Flying, First Strike, and LIFELINK!? Why yes, I sure do love my Baneslayer Angels and even though they're absurdly clunky, if they can stick around we can dunk on those aggro decks!
