Single Scoop: Mono Blue Yoink (Standard, Magic Arena)

Hey everyone! Welcome back to another episode of Single Scoop! This week, I'm playing a deck that I played in my stream (Courtesy of chat's recommendation). It started with Midnight Clock #79 and my love for stealing all of the things from Golos players. This week, we played Mono Blue Yoink because nothing feels more trolling than winning with your opponent's things!

Gameplan

When people think of "Yoink" decks aka steal your stuff style of gameplay, people think of decks with green and a bunch of mana creatures like Paradise Druid #704 or Gilded Goose #246, but we're going to try to do this the hard way with Mono Blue! Well, all the theft effects are high cost so how do we accelerate mana?

$ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00

The combination of Lotus Field #249 and Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner #232 usually nets us a ton of mana and most people don't think to really kill Kiora as she doesn't really hurt our opponent's board. There are absolutely zero ways to trigger Kiora's passive in this deck by the way! The other way to pull ahead on mana is combining Lotus Field #249 with a cute trick. What's that trick?

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

Tale's End #77 is most certainly a meme but it can counter Lotus Field #249's 'enter the battlefield' drawback so we can keep our two lands and actually move our way up to five mana. At the very least, maybe you can snag a few turn two planeswalkers with this card if you're on the play!

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

I'm sure a lot of people are going to ask me why this is in the deck, but to be honest, it's a fun card and with how much mana we can make in some games, we can expedite our way to the twelfth hour counter! Not only that, this is one of the few mana rocks we can use that don't just sit there and produce mana. At a point, I wanted to be cute and try Spinning Wheel #234 but that was when I decided to do another cute synergy by adding Gadwick, the Wizened #48 and Verity Circle #58

$ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00

I'm pretty sure once people see these two on board, Gadwick will meet his swift demise, but if you ever get to untap, the two can be quite the duo and on top of that, we can use Verity Circle #58 to tap down big threats on its own and draw us more cards. Sure, it comes at the cost of five mana but we don't really have a ton of ways to control the board outside of Flood of Tears #59, but I don't really want to return a bunch of things that I stole from the opponent.

Matchups

The deck definitely wants to try to play the long game, and it has an abysmal match up with Mono Red and any hyper-aggressive deck. The only way we can beat an aggressive start is by having a ridiculous amount of ramp to steal all of our opponent's early game.

$ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00

If it's not the lightning-fast aggression from opponents, the other thing that stomps us in is Shifting Ceratops #258 aka Michael Ceratops! The card has protection from Blue so it's protected from everything in our deck except Karn, the Great Creator #1, who can grab us a Stonecoil Serpent #235 Planeswalker Stamp or Fae of Wishes #44 to help us grab an Ugin, the Ineffable #2!

Conclusion

The deck actually went 7-1 as I got stuck on two lands one match against Mono Red but the deck was fun. I don't think the deck will be taking you to the Player's Tour but it certainly is a good time when the engine gets going. It's also humorous to see how many people you can catch off guard with Tale's End #77. What would I change about this list? I'd take out the Essence Capture #52. I feel like those could just be Sinister Sabotage #54 or something as Essence Capture #52 is an awful late-game draw. I'd also look to add my fourth copy of Mass Manipulation #42 into the sideboard so I can grab it with Fae of Wishes #44.  Oh, and I'd maybe go up one more land because on paper it shows us at 24 lands but when we're sacrificing two of them for Lotus Field #249 it really lessens our land count. This isn't even accounting for the times we draw multiple Lotus Field #249

As always, thank you so much for all the love and support! Happy October!
