Single Scoop: Gideon and Friends (Historic, Magic Arena)
Gameplan
Best of one has been littered with so many aggro decks that its been fun building different variations of control and this week I'm building a tap-out Boros control deck.
Our win conditions will be our Gideons and Chandras. We're even playing a planeswalker deck Gideon as we don't have Gideon, Ally of Zendikar in Historic yet. I thought about throwing cards like Heart of Kiran into the deck, but the list felt pretty tight as we need a ton of sweepers to deal with the meta. As opposed to the blue control deck, we're all about keeping the board clear with our sweepers like Doomskar, Deafening Clarion, and so much more!
We don't have a ton of clean removal like Heartless Act but we make up for it with a plethora of sweepers. Since all of the sweepers are sorcery and Goblins and Gruul are haste heavy, we are heavily relying on a card like Authority of the Consuls to slow them down from their shenanigans!
Conclusion
The deck really likes efficient ways to deal with a card like Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger and planeswalkers. Our deck absolutely folds to counterspell heavy decks but every now and then, we can get the jump on them with our early Gideons. To better deal with Planeswalkers, I think we should be playing more copies of Elspeth Conquers Death. Other than that, the deck can definitely slow down the aggression of best of one. Even better, if you want to get saucy, you can play Glorious End as a counterspell. Just make sure you have a Gideon!
Thanks for watching and I'll see you at the next one.
