Single Scoop: GG's (Grixis Giants) (Standard, Magic Arena)
When the full list of spoilers went out, I had to make a Giant tribe deck. Most of the cards were Izzet which is 2/3rds of Grixis, which had me thinking about our best boi Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger, a fellow giant. Another card that I've been high on is King Narfi's Betrayal so I decided we'd splash black for this Giant deck!
Gameplan
The deck is a midrange tribal deck that will try to inch out its value from all of our Sagas and Quakebringer.
Invasion of the Giants is probably the best thing we have for the early game as most of our threats don't come down until turn three. The card feels essential to the tribe as it sets up our later turns and allows our giants to come down for cheap in its final chapter. Battle of Frost and Fire was decent for the most part. It's extremely nice to have a one-sided sweeper with a decent final chapter. It's a bit awkward as it doesn't deal with Lovestruck Beast but outside of that, the card felt perfectly fine. And of course, our giant haymaker is Quakebringer. Being able to still deal damage from the graveyard is quite powerful. It may not seem like much at first but the card is sweet.
Why not just play Izzet and have smoother snow mana? Well, I wanted to try Grixis for Kroxa as he's a giant and a great closer for the deck. Another card that I think could be good in multiple decks is King Narfi's Betrayal. This card is a draw two with one card from our grave and the other being the opponent's. This card also fuels our graveyard for Kroxa, potential milling Quakebringer and Glimpse the Cosmos giving us even more power.
Conclusion
After getting an early feel for the deck, I like the power that black brings, but I'll have to see what it's like as Izzet with a snow mana base. The snow base gives us the option to play cards like Frost Bite and Tundra Fumarole. It's still too early to make any conclusions but as of right now, this deck seems like it'll get better after a few more sets are released. As of right now, Eldraine and the existing archetypes seem to outclass the tribe. I guess we'll have to check back! Anywho, there's a lot to brew and try out with Kaldheim's release so happy brewing and I'll see you at the next episode.
