Mythic Championship VI Matchup Data

With the conclusion of the swiss rounds of Mythic Championship VI over, we now know what the post-Field of the Dead ban metagame looks like — and it isn't pretty. Our top 8 decks are 3 Sultai Food, 3 Simic Food, 1 Selesnya Adventure, and 1 Golgari Adventure. Oko decks made up a historic 69% of the metagame on Day 1, with most players settling on Simic or Sultai. We've analyzed the round-by-round results to compute the win rates for the various decks at Mythic Championship VI during the Standard rounds:

Normally this is where I do a deck by deck analysis, but in the case of Mythic Championship VI, I'm not sure how helpful or necessary that would be. The bottom line is actually quite simple:

  • Oko decks dominated at Mythic Championship VI. Sultai Sacrifice won an astounding 67% of its matches (making it by far the best deck in the field, albeit with a small sample size  of 105 matches) and didn't have a poor matchup in the entire field. Meanwhile, the more popular Oko Food decks not only ate up a massive 69% of the day one meta which increased to 71% of day two and 75% of the top eight, but managed to post the best win percentages in the field outside of Sultai Sacrifice, with each version winning at least 50% of the time, and Simic Food leading the pack at 53%.
  • Heading into the event there were rumors that decks like Azorius Control, Temur Reclamation, and Jeskai Fires could possibly gobble up Food, but in reality, this wasn't the case. None of those decks a positive record overall and they generally struggled against Food. Basically, the decks that people thought might be able to beat Food actually can't.
  • In reality, no non-Oko deck was good at Mythic Championship IV. Selesnya Adventures was the best of the bunch but it only posted a 50% win rate overall while only winning 47% against Sultai Food. No other major archetype managed to win 50% of the time.
  • All in all, this means there's very likely to be a banning next Monday. It's hard to imagine that Oko, Thief of Crowns isn't a target, and based on the dominance of green decks at Mythic Championship VI, there might be a case to ban Oko and another green card just to be safe. The metagame is that out of whack.
