My Copies Copy my Copies | Brewer's Kitchen

Well, hello there! Brewer’s Kitchen here and today we’re using our copies to copy our copies.

The Gameplan

At the first glance, this deck is one of these Historic enchantress decks. Popping off with Sythis, Harvest's Hand, Sanctum Weaver and a bunch of enchantments. And while this is certainly a thing you can do, the real star of the show is Three Blind Mice

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

It’s a four-chapter saga that creates a mouse token, copies it twice, and then pumps our team. Sounds meh? Well, copying the mouse token is the boring way to use it. Since it can copy any token, how bout we turn the saga itself into a token and start copying itself?

Calix, Guided by Fate, Mythos of Illuna, and Tamiyo, Compleated Sage’s -X ability can all create a token copy of Three Blind Mice. Once this happens, we can use its second and third chapter to create copies of itself. While at first we will only end up with a couple of mice and some sagas, exponential growth gets out of hand real quick. Once we copy our copies and then use all these copies to create even more copies that will copy the copies again every turn, we will overwhelm any opponent in a couple of turns without casting another spell.

The rest of the deck is pieces that support the plan. Utopia Sprawl and Sanctum Weaver efficiently ramp us to cast all the spells we draw from Sythis, Harvest's Hand and Eidolon of Blossoms. Heliod's Punishment, Baffling End, and Tamiyo’s +1 ability are our ways of dealing with aggression.

Now as you’ve seen in the video… wait you didn’t see the video yet? Well, you should probably do that after finishing this article! We play a copy of Doubling Season, a card known for creating absurd board states and absurd numbers. It’s no different in this deck. While it helps to increase the number of +1/+1 counters from Calix, Guided by Fate and doubles the number of mice we create, the real action begins when we create a token copy of Three Blind Mice. Since it will enter with twice the chapter counters, it will immediately trigger the “Copy target Token” ability, allowing us to copy itself right away, resulting in an infinite number of mice token, saga tokens, and Constellation triggers. While this is pretty sweet with Calix to infinitely pump all of our creatures, there is one fail case where this can actually kill us. Well… two fail cases if you watched the video till the end. While Syithis draws a card whenever we "cast" an enchantment, Eidolon of Blossoms’s Constellation ability will draw a card whenever an enchantment "enters the battlefield." This is super sweet when we start copying our sagas the regular way, but once we can create an infinite amount on the spot, we have to be careful not to create more enchantments than we have cards in our library.

Mythos of Illuna is usually just a way to start our mouse engine, but it can copy any permanent on the battlefield. Sometimes it’s just worth it to copy the biggest creature on the board or whatever crazy permanents are on the battlefield. If you ever copy a Karn, the Great Creator, make sure to have some artifacts to tutor in the sideboard. It only happened once in all the games I’ve played with the deck but it’s a neat interaction and costs us nothing if we play Best of One matches. Interestingly enough, if you pay the special mana costs to trigger Mythos of Illuna’s fight ability, the created token will keep the ability. That means that all subsequent copies of it will also fight a creature when they enter the battlefield.

Wrap up

What a wild deck. The plan b of going off with enchantress staples works pretty well to keep up with more powerful decks and if you assemble the engine, it’s just funny to lean back and watch the opponent battle an ever-increasing number of mice. Board wipes and counter spells can be devastating for this deck if you haven’t drawn a bunch of cards yet but you can’t win them all, right?
