Fish Five-0: Bant Bogles (Standard, Magic Arena)

New standard is here and there are a ton of sweet cards and brews coming in thanks to #MTGTHB! This week, I'm going to try to do my take on a Bogles playstyle! Before we get started, for people who don't know what's a bogle is...

Slippery Bogle [EVE]

This card is the name of an entire archetype for decks that are trying to beef up one big threat with a ton of enchantments and then just sit back and watch as your opponent struggles to deal with an enormous threat. Today, we're going to try to make this happen in standard and I think its actually possible with all of the tools at our disposal!

Gameplan

The deck focuses on loading up a ton of enchantments onto a threat and then making it almost impossible for our opponents to ever remove! What are the threats we're looking to load up?

$ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00

These are the first two that come to mind and though neither one of these are true Bogles just yet, that'll change with the help of some enchantments. Paradise Druid specifically can pretty much be unkillable with Sentinel's Eyes aka googly eyes. Don't worry about loading up Setessan Champion with a ton of enchantments as the opponents will already have a reason for wanting this card dead and gone since the value is absurd. The card also rewards us for playing our game naturally by giving us a ton of draws while pumping itself! After enchanting our druid, we can safely load up our threat and make it almost unkillable with Karametra's Blessing. This deck doesn't really interact too much outside of the new and improved Blossoming Defense aka Karametra's Blessing!

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

This card will allow us to survive all the board wipes like Shatter the Sky and Time Wipe from control opponents while also saving us from spot removal or maybe a sheisty Simic opponent trying to steal our threat with an Agent of Treachery

Why add the blue in this deck??

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

I pretty much wanted to use Staggering Insight as a way to make up for the fact that we have zero removal main deck and our gameplan is to just outrace all of our opponents while drowning in value and card draw. Sometimes you flat out won't even care if you're being hit for 15-20 a turn as your threat can trample over for damage and be a massive killing machine. Lets not even talk about what happens when we have an unanswered Hydra's Growth...

Another card that I think is going to be sweet and standard and a bit underrated? Calix, Destiny's Hand...

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

This card was in the list as a way for us to both have removal for creatures and enchantments that were in our way and is another way for us to reload on auras and dig for Staggering Insight.

Conclusion

The deck has insanely swingy games where you can obliterate your opponent and make opponents regret queuing into you but then there are the games where you struggle to draw/stick a threat on the board. Also, we're quite dependent on something like Setessan Training so we can trample through but maybe we can mix it up and add something like Angelic Gift as a way to soar over the competition and block a bunch of pesky fliers! Something I think the updated list will profit from is a better removal spell out of the sideboard for planeswalkers...

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

 Obviously, Banishing Light gets hit by more answers than Calix does but I think upside of picking off a Nissa, Who Shakes the World aka the best card in standard! This is key as a card like Teferi, Time Raveler will severely hinder our game plan thus making the ability to answer a planeswalker way more important to me! If I were to take this deck for a spin on the ladder, the list would look more like this...

The deck is definitely "all your eggs in the basket" style of play, so for those who have been waiting for a sweet enchantress/aura heavy deck, this is perfect for you! We'll just have to see if the blue splash is better than pure Selesnya or the Abzan Variants I've seen on the ladder.

*Side note, I got paired against Richard playing this deck on the ladder and it was hilarious but couldn't get the footage since it was on stream and YouTube has some music laws etc*
