Fish Five-0: 5C Niv-Mizzy (Standard, Magic Arena)

Your deck can only be loaded with amazing cards when you're in all five colors!

For the most part, we're playing a midrange gameplan but we have the amazing value machine in Niv-Mizzet Reborn.

This card is the whole reason we're playing every color! This card on average will come down and net you two cards and leave you with a 6/6 flying body. That's already a bargain but sometimes you can grab even more cards and turn our deck into a huge playground loaded with sweet toys like Casualties of War to blow up multiple problematic threats. Here are a few of the sweet targets you can grab.

I didn't touch this list at all as I wanted to play the list that Fulgence got a 5-0 with and test it for myself but I can definitely see me putting in a few more fun targets like a Vraska, Relic Seeker or Vraska, Golgari Queen into the sideboard. There are definitely a ton of other fun targets if you want to go deeper like an Azor, the Lawbringer but that's only if you're trying to be extra cute.

The mana base was a huge concern for me going into this as I thought the games without our Chromatic Lantern would be brutal but I was wrong! I don't think I had problems with any of the colors at all! Of course Chromatic Lantern was always welcomed as it was ramp and made it so we didn't have to spend a bunch of time on us using our mana.

The deck definitely can suffer from decks that are way too aggressive as we have a very clunky mana curve but the payoff is absurd as we can pick and pull whatever fancy threats we want with Niv-Mizzet Reborn. I believe the sideboard isn't perfect and can definitely be tinkered with for more interaction and maybe some Unmoored Ego to help us keep the Nexus of Fate decks from going too wild on us. The deck was a dream come true for a midrange mage as resolving a Niv just felt like a game ender. Take the deck out if you've got the cards or wildcards laying around but do keep in mind this deck will be loaded with Rares. Definitely, recommend this for an FNM though!

See you at the next one,
