Budget Arena: Golgari Zomberts (Standard, Magic Arena)
Let's see what the undead are up to this week as we see how Golgari Zomberts work!
Gameplan
The plan is to have the hordes of undead flood the board and then use Death Baron as a way to push push through small threats as all of the zombies will have deathtouch so the blocks will usually favor us. The only difference this time is that we have a Molderhulk and Memorial to Folly gameplan to grind our opponents out! That's right Undergrowth matters here as we have Necrotic Wound and tons of ways to fuel the yard!
We also have another pay off for undergrowth!
The cards that will be filling up our graveyards?
With how much we're going to be throwing cards into the graveyard, we do have [[Gravedigger] to pull back threats along with the Memorial to Folly so don't be worried to dump things!
Matchup Recaps:
5 Color Guildgates (W): We got really lucky in this matchup as we got the Lotleth Giant finish!
Izzet Drakes (W): Death Baron does work here as giving our little zombie friends deathtouch is too much!
Izzet Drakes (W): We got the value train in Memorial to Folly and Molderhulk going so we were able to buy back our Ravenous Chupacabra, which ended up going nom nom nom on some drakes!
5 Color Guildgates (L): This one we get dunked on by Gate Colossus, but the way the opponent closes the game is perfect hahah.
Mono White Things (L): We were able to keep up for most of the game, but Unbreakable Formation pumped all of their threats way too much. It really doesn't help that they did Formation back to back!
Rakdos Midrange (L): We got them really low but Siege-Gang Commander gave them enough bodies to block and stabilize against us!
Naya Temporal Gateway (W): Our board was too aggressive and it seemed like it could've been superfriends or maybe a Naya historic deck but we never got to see it all because they were dead before getting to activate the gateway.
Conclusion
The deck didn't get too many new toys with Ravnica Allegiance but still had some legs to stand on. If budget weren't an issue, I'd look to adding two more Midnight Reaper and a better manabase in Overgrown Tomb and the remaining Woodland Cemetery required. Oh and I'd really like to go up to 2 copies of Liliana, Untouched by Death! This deck does need some kind of Blood Artist effect but I don't think adding a third color for Judith, Scourge Diva is worth messing with our mana base. For right now, let's just leave this zombie deck as Golgari. Is there any reason to build this over Golgari Midrange? Unless you're just a zombie lover like me, I would say craft Golgari Midrange, but this deck was a lot of fun to play as I enjoy the zombie tribe!
See you all at the next one!
