Against the Odds: I'm a Modern Tax Collector
Hello everyone, and welcome to another edition of Much Abrew About Nothing. Assassin's Creed doesn't look like the most impactful Modern set, but one of the cards I'm most hyped about for the format is Tax Collector. Making all of your opponent's spells cost one more is a unique effect. As a one-shot, it doesn't seem that strong, but thanks to cards like Ephemerate and Phelia, Exuberant Shepherd, we can potentially be taxing our opponent every single turn by blinking Tax Collector! Since we're playing the blink effects, we also get to try out another synergy I've been wanting to explore: White Orchid Phantom with Leonin Arbiter! With Arbiter on the battlefield to keep our opponent from searching their library, White Orchid Phantom essentially becomes a Sinkhole for non-basics that leaves behind a 2/2 flying, first-strike body! Much like Tax Collector, using White Orchid Phantom once will annoy our opponent a bit but probably not win us the game. But once we start blinking White Orchid Phantom, we can potentially blow up all of our opponent's lands! Oh yeah, it's also worth mentioning that the deck is just under $300 currently, which isn't in our traditional $100 budget range but is pretty cheap for a current Modern deck. How good is Tax Collector in Modern? What about White Orchid Phantom with Leonin Arbiter? Let's get to the video and find out!
